How to Get Started

Published on 27 April 2025 at 15:27

There are a lot of ways to start actively traveling the world and becoming an adventurer. A person could start by joining an online travel group, attending a semester abroad or simply jumping on a plane. Today I am going to talk about an alternative route that I am personally taking to become a world traveler.

My family and I have done numerous road trips all over America. When I was roughly 16 we took a road trip across the US in a fifteen-passenger van. During the trip we saw New York City, Washington DC, MT Rushmore and much more. More recently, we drove to Arizona to visit its many national parks and of course the Grand Canyon. Finally, last summer we drove to Alberta, Canada and saw the Olympic Park in Calgary.

As you can tell, I have a lot of experience in overland, national travel, but when it comes to international trips, I am only just a beginner. As I have mentioned in previous posts, this May I will be traveling to Uganda.

Since this trip is my first major overseas adventure, I want to tell you guys how I am getting started and how you can too.

Tip #1: Join A Mission Trip

Although you might rule this out as a religious waste of time, joining a mission trip will give you the opportunity to do something good for people in need and also get you overseas.

There are so many types of mission trips to choose from. The purpose of a trip could range from building a house to simply lending a hand in a community. Either way, the experience will make you feel great inside, and you'll get to visit another country. It will also get you travel experience and knowledge on packing, culture interactions and planning tips.

To find an upcoming mission trip, conduct a simple online search. You might be surprised by how many results you'll get!

Tip #2: Consider Tip #1

There is no tip #2, simply think about going on a mission trip! It could change your life!

One Option:

All mission trips look a little different. The trip I will be going on in May will include a small team representing a Christina dance school here in America.

If you need a place to start research the organization called: YWAM. This organization has hundreds of mission trip options all over the world. Their DTS program is an opportunity that I have personally considered and highly recommend.

Conclusion

Whatever your first world travel experience may look like, I hope that it is filled with adventures! For those of you who are wanting to travel but don't know where to start consider a mission trip opportunity! Thanks for reading!
